Our nation must adapt and overcome

Our country started its downward spiral out of control when former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took over during the last two years of the Bush administration.

When President Obama was elected, he acted like a kid in a candy store with his parent's charge card, spending beyond its limit. That is when gas prices started to rise, slowing down our economy, killing commerce and bringing prosperity to a halt.

Our elected officials don't have the mind-set to think outside the box. Where is it written that we can't adapt and improvise to solve our problems?

If Obama wanted to fix our broken economy, he didn't have to go to Brazil and offer them $2 billion of our hard-earned money to drill for oil and sell it back to us. He could build six new oil refineries here in our country -- partnering up with the oil companies as I suggested in previous writings -- giving jobs to the jobless and millions of dollars back into our coffers.

With the stroke of his pen, Obama could put a freeze on imported oil, stopping any oil over $50 a barrel from coming in. OPEC and the other oil-producing countries would feel the pain that we have been suffering at the pumps for the past several years.

In the meantime, we could and should open up those capped wells around the country that have been untouched for 30 or more years.

In the Marine Corps we learned to adapt and improvise or die. This country is on the brink of dying. It's time it adapts.
