Help Red Cross continue its mission

The American Red Cross of Augusta responds to disasters of all kinds, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and house fires throughout an 11-county region in our community.

Globally, Red Cross responds to all types of disasters, including the earthquake in Haiti and the tsunami in Southeast Asia.

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food and health and mental-health services to address basic human needs. In addition, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities, such as the food, shelter and clothing given to victims of house fires.

Yet, the Red Cross relies upon volunteers to provide the support and service that is so often needed in our communities. Volunteers make up the heart and soul of the Red Cross, and without them, it would not be possible to provide the kind of comfort and care that is synonymous with the Red Cross.

Our volunteers give their time and talents by providing a wide range of services, like taking care of disaster victims, teaching classes, offering mental health services, connecting military families in times of emergency, and answering phones. Having neighbors helping neighbors ensures that members of our community in need will receive quality care and services form the Red Cross.

The American Red Cross of Augusta would like to ask you to consider carrying on this giving spirit and volunteer with us. We are looking for people who are interested in receiving education and training and will be available to help your neighbors in any future disaster.

If you are interested in volunteering with the American Red Cross of Augusta, please call (706) 724-8481.
