We must stand behind our president

It seems that some white Americans have gone crazy. It seems as if they have been asleep for a while. When they awakened, they saw that we have an African-American president and have gone nuts. They are buying guns, forming militia groups and shouting, "We want to take our country back!" They are calling President Obama many unsavory names: Hitler, Bimbo, socialist, Marxist, a racist, a cult leader, etc.

Even one of our congressmen, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., has exhibited negative decorum. He screamed out "You lie!" as the president was giving a national speech on his health care plan Sept. 9. What's beneath the surface of this festering vitriol?

Quoting Dr. Andrew Manis, associate professor of history, Macon State College ("When are we going to get over it"? Macon Telegraph, Nov. 19):

"How long before we white people realize we can't make our nation, much less the whole world, look like us? How long until we white people can -- once and for all -- get over this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin color? How long until we white people get over the demonic conviction that white skin makes us superior? How long before we white people get over our bitter resentments about being demoted to the status of equality with non-whites?"

He also went on to say: "I'm going to report to the FBI any white person I overhear saying, in seriousness or in jest, anything of a threatening nature about President Obama. ... I'm going to pray to live long enough to see America surprise the world once again, when white people can 'in spirit and in truth' sing of our damnable color prejudice, 'We have overcome.'

"It takes a village to protect our president!"

My fellow Americans, we want to show respect for the office of the presidency because we promote civility in the good ol' USA, and we are the leader of the free world.
