As we proceed into this fall season, and see assaults on water quality, not to mention air and soil as well, volunteers are needed to supplement the efforts of our local and state officials in assessing the health of our streams.
There are already volunteers in both Richmond and Columbia Counties. Each volunteer devotes time monthly to measuring the physical and biological qualities of stream habitats and water at critical sites.
Right now, more volunteers of all ages (so far, 7 to 77!) and backgrounds are needed. I invite interested citizens to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 706-868-0296 to register and receive instructions regarding a meeting beginning at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 4, at Reed Creek Park Interpretive Center in Martinez.
Attendees will learn about objectives, techniques and roles. Some will have the opportunity to make useful professional career contacts.
