Send Butler to commission

Vote for John Butler in Augusta Commission Super District 10.

Do you realize: Augusta Clean and Beautiful has been eliminated; Augusta's director of trees and landscapes has been eliminated; and the Rae's Creek and Crane Creek bicycle and pedestrian trail from Berckman Road to Skinner Mill Road, a priority in 2002-2003, has been moved to a long-range project?

A Comprehensive Land Use Plan occurs every 10 years. In 1990, west Augusta was to have a 50- to 100-acre regional park. It has not materialized. Eisenhower Park was to have a gym/community center, but instead Garrett Elementary School got a larger gym.

How does west Augusta compete?

Eisenhower Park and The Village at River Watch soon will give better access to the 297 acres of the Canal Heritage Area. A 2.3-mile, off-road biking and walking trail, along River Watch's right-of-way from Furys Ferry Road to the Village at Riverwatch, would promote the destination and promote exercise, and could be landscaped as a beautiful Augusta gateway.

Interstate 20 modifications finally will show that Augusta is indeed the second-largest city in Georgia. Diamond Lake Park is a jewel that will help Hephzibah. The greenspace vision for Butler Creek and Rocky Creek will link to the river.

Public meetings for the 2010 Land Use Plan will occur this year. We ask the 92,000-plus registered voters of Augusta to become better informed. Please vote for John Butler. He understands the importance of every neighborhood to a vibrant, healthy city.
