A prisoner who escaped from a South Carolina corrections facility was arrested in Appling after a passerby reported the man fighting with a woman on the side of the road.
According to a news release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, police responded to the 6400 block of Cobbham Road around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning for reports of a domestic disturbance.
A passerby informed police that a black male and a black female were scuffling near the roadway. When deputies first arrived, the man was uncooperative and got into a physical altercation with a deputy. After the man was taken into custody he gave police false identification.
The man was positively identified as Santonio Dwayne Ramsey, 26, of Thomson. Police also discovered Ramsey was missing from Alston Wilkes Federal Correction Facility in Columbia , and that he also had outstanding warrants for obstruction and fleeing and attempting to elude in McDuffie County.
Ramsey is currently being held in the Columbia County Detention Center on charges of battery, obstruction, and providing a false name.
