Military air training reported at Fort Gordon

  • Follow Metro

Augusta residents who hear what sounds like a large flyover should not be alarmed.

Fort Gordon’s training area is holding routine, scheduled Air Force cargo drop training from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and again from 7 to 10 p.m.

The aircraft involved are Air Force Reserve C-130 cargo planes from Marietta, Ga. The planes are flying at low altitudes as a necessary part of the training.

The sounds of the air training have been heard as far away from the Army post as Daniel Field.

Interesting ..

It's funny .. other folks on Twitter are describing "jets" making "Zoom" sounds .. there must be additional planes in the sky the military isn't talking about ..

Jets vs Cargo Planes

A C-130 Cargo Plane does not go "zoom" ... at slow speeds and flying low, it is more like a "rumble". If jets are involved, they would be escorting the planes which is the usual practice to protect cargo planes when they are more vulnerable.

I heard the loud, thunderous

I heard the loud, thunderous roar and went outside to find out where it came from. Spotted a military fighter jet high in the hazy sky around the Daniel Field area...AWESOME!

I heard the jets, too, they

I heard the jets, too, they were definitely higher up than the rumble we heard at first, my dog didn't care for that sound either, he kept giving me a worried look and wouldn't come out from behind the chair.

My dentist said it was

My dentist said it was definitely fighter jets zooming low over the North Belair/Fury's Ferry intersection earlier.

I don't know about the rest of you

but it just gives me big, fat shivers of patriotism when I hear and/or see those flyovers. So very proud of our military and to be an American!

Those low and slow C130's bring back many memories of sleepless nights while my brother clocked over 1000 hours of time during Desert Storm.

JATO's

Always enjoyed the end of the Golden Knights show, when they would leave with a JATO!

JATO

Yep, a 45 degree angle of attack on something that heavy is awesome...

It's also amazing to see the rockets fire to shorten the run out...

The Farmers Almanac may be right about the frigid winter this coming year... I actually agree with a comment by historylover...
