SENOIA, Ga. — Authorities say a small plane has crashed in a wooded area near Senoia, killing the two men on board.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said the cause of the crash Saturday was not immediately known.

Coweta County Sheriff’s Lt. Jason Ercole said the two men on board were killed. Authorities have not released their names.

Ercole says authorities in Coweta and Fayette counties spent about eight hours searching for the plane after a tower lost contact with it.

The plane was a single-engine Cessna C150. It departed from Atlanta Regional/Falcon Field and the FAA issued an alert when a family friend called to report that the plane was overdue at Eagle Neck Airport along the coast in Shellman Bluff, which is about 225 miles away from the crash site.
