ATHENS, Ga. -- A Clarke County grand jury this week indicted an Athens man who seriously injured another man last year by smashing him in the face with a brass duck.
Dajuan Anterrell Cooper, 33, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Clarke County Superior Court.
The indictment states that Cooper “did maliciously cause bodily harm to (the victim) by seriously disfiguring said person’s body ... by striking (the victim) in the head with a brass ornamental duck.”
The victim suffered a fractured skull and broken nose, according to the indictment.
The assault occurred in October at Cooper’s home on Park Ridge Drive, noted the indictment.
Cooper was charged with the offenses under the state Family Violence Act because he and the victim lived in the same household, according to the indictment.
A police report noted that the 47-year-old victim was the boyfriend of Cooper’s mother.
When officers responded to the assault, they said they found the victim bleeding heavily from a large cut that extended from his hairline to the bridge of his nose.
Cooper fled the scene and was later arrested on a warrant. He subsequently bonded out of jail.
An arraignment date had not yet been set.
