Aiken arrest and 'suspicious' package

The Aiken Department of Public Safety arrested a suspect and called in the SLED Bomb Unit to help handle a suspicious package in the Kroger parking lot at 1795 Whiskey Road.

According to a news release, an Aiken officer saw a vehicle speeding on Whiskey Road speeding. The officer stopped the vehicle in the Kroger parking lot. Further investigation revealed the driver, Darin Lee Mabrey, of North Augusta had an active Aiken County sheriff’s warrant and was taken into custody.

An inventory of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of a schedule IV substance, a quantity of Marijuana and a suspicious package.

The Bomb Unit from SLED responded and rendered the suspicious package safe. The package and its contents were collected by SLED agents for further examination in the SLED forensics lab.

Mabrey was arrested on numerous charges.
