CHAMBLEE, Ga. — Police in Atlanta’s northeast suburbs say three men were struck and killed by a pickup as they attempted to walk across a freeway near the start of the morning rush hour.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish says the crash happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 85.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for nearly two hours. By 7 a.m., two of the six lanes had reopened.

Moments after the crash, two bodies could be seen on the pavement in the two right lanes of the freeway as a DeKalb County police car blocked those lanes. Shortly after that, more police cars and fire trucks arrived and all southbound lanes were closed.

Parish said it wasn’t clear why the men were trying to cross I-85.

Now that's a sad way to start a week.

You leave your home to possibly make it to work or wherever and you try to cross a major highway. My heart goes out to these people who were killed and to the drivers who were certainly not expecting this to happen as they left their homes. God be with them all.

Bad Choices

#1. Pedestrians are illegal on interstates. #2 Who in the world would cross I-285 on foot??? I feel for their families, and the person(s) that hit them in particular.

Hard to believe

This one is hard to believe. How could all three be hit and killed. Were they holding hands.

All highways in the Atlanta area are dangerous for cars to travel on. What were they thinking trying to cross such a busy highway?
