It might still be waiting on permission to build a hospital in Columbia County, but University Hospital is already adding to health care services it provides there.

On Monday, University opened its new $4.85 million Grovetown campus just off Interstate 20. It features a Prompt Care/Occupational Medicine, wound healing, services, physician offices, a lab and radiology services. University has filed with the Georgia Department of Community Health for a Certificate of Need to build a 100-bed hospital on its campus in Evans. Last week, the department declared the application complete, which should start the 120-day review process. However, because Doctors Hospital and Georgia Regents Medical Center have also filed for CONs to build in Columbia County, it is likely all three will be joined and ruled on together.

Headline

Yeah, when I read the headline I thought an institution of higher learning was establishing a bone fide campus in the Grovetown area.

Good for the people of the Grovetown area. They can get a lot of their medical treatment without having to go to Augusta.
