A 47-year-old Augusta man was fatally struck while riding a bicycle early Sunday in the 3900 block of Peach Orchard Road, authorities say.

According to a statement from the deputy coroner, John Keffer was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:05 a.m. from blunt force trauma injuries.

Deputies answering the call said Keffer was riding a bicycle against traffic and rode in front of a vehicle traveling in the southbound lane, causing the vehicle to strike his bike. No charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle.

Dead on Peach Orchard

Did Peach Orchard kill him? I do not think so, wait until you have at least minimal details before posting. Prayers for the family.

Peach Orchard Rd

I lived on Peach Orch with my granmama for years.....it was a 2 lane road at that time....we even picked blackberries out by her fence on the road.....safe as could be, only worried about snakes then.
Well I did worry her slow driving would get us killed at times BUT we made it.
Dang I miss that time I had with her..

I agree

They don't need to post any details. It's really none of our business. A man was killed and sympathy to the family.

Odd time

Whatever his reason for leaving his house on Boykin Rd, and being on the road at 1:00am and it must have been important.

We learned the other day that

We learned the other day that mopeds that go up to 35mph are illegal on Peach Orchard Rd. How can bicycles be legal on the same road?

State sanctioned death by bicycle.
Unpublished

Yes, the State sanctioned this death by allowing bicycles on the road. This time, only the drivers car was damaged and the driver was not injured or others. His life is changed forever and not in a good way, no one wants to live with this memory. When a bicycle is involved in a wreck it does not have liability insurance to fix the other cars and property damage. Yes a bicyclist was killed and that is a tragedy, a tragedy the State is causing. This man may have gotten out on the road a 1 AM even if it were against the law but maybe many others would not.
