Sujada Lazana Truitt, 19, was struck by a vehicle and killed while walking in the 2100 block of Old Savannah Road, according to Coroner Mark Bowen. Truitt is from 300 Applecross Drive in Martinez.

The victim, Bowen said, was wearing dark clothing and “walking pretty much in the center of the road near the double-yellow line.”

“It isn’t a very well-lit area to begin with,” Bowen added.

According to a news release, Bowen said Truitt was walking south in the 2100 block of Old Savannah Road about 4:30 a.m. when she was hit by a southbound vehicle. Truitt was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:05 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the accident, Bowen confirmed.

The sheriff’s office traffic accident reconstruction team was called to the scene.

It was the fifth pedestrian fatality in Richmond County this year, according to an Augusta Chronicle database.

When is RCSO going to start enforcing JAYWALKING Laws?

While we don't as of 7:33Am whether the person was Jay Walking or not. That has been the common reason behind the 3 preceding car/person accidents.

Example: Yesterday driving North on US-25 at the Stoplight near SONIC. I watched a LAZY or stupid woman drag her 3-4 y/o, playing a LIFE & Death game of Frogger with traffic. After dodging vehicles she reached the middle of the LEFT HAND TURN LANE (not the suicide lane), yes she was standing in traffic with a child headed to the bank or Churches Chicken.

She did this with a Crosswalk was just 20 feet away.
I guess that was too far to walk for her and her child.

BACK ON TOPIC
Since this isn't the 1st or 2nd or 3rd such accident in the Gordon Hwy area. Maybe some RCSO Jaywalking enforcement needs to be applied.

In front of Southgate,
In front of Kmart,
and the whole Oliver/Old Savannah Rd area.

BTW: Those of you that don't know or CR,
FROGGER was a video game from the 1980's of a
Frog dodging traffic to get to the other side.

Here is a play-online version.

Justice

Nocnoc's comment got me thinking. Jaywalking is indeed a crime, but it is sort of a victimless crime. If a person gets hit while jaywalking, justice has been served.

BTW: 2100 block of Old Savannah Road

In front of the BC&WC Factory, according to Google.

Google the street view and ask yourself was she walking BESIDE the
road, CROSSING the road or IN the Road?

Because the article does not indicate a Vehicle jumped the curb to hit her.

Corgimom

First sentence says "struck" by a vehicle (car).
I thought j-walking had stopped since Leno left the air.
She was a long way from home & it's not a good idea to be walking anywhere at 4:30 am.

I guess I'll hold my comments

I guess I'll hold my comments until the investigation and toxicology is done.

I would be curious to know why any female would be walking that road at that time of the morning. They did not mention anything about the driver being charged with DUI or anything else.

Location

Parallel to the BCWC factory on Gordon Hwy is Old Savannah Rd. where she was hit. That has been a bad drug area for years now, to include the Old South side Projects a few feet away, an old abandoned liquor store for hangouts . Right in the middle of Gordon and Savannah Rd is a convenience store where druggers hang out all day and night.

This is just so sad.

Nineteen years old and out on the street that time of night instead of being at home, in her bed with her family nearby, trying to rest up for her day at school or work.

It just makes me feel sick inside.

Public roads, stupidity and dope
Unpublished

NOCNOC; So many people have no knowledge of how to use our public roads, whether walking, biking, golf cart riding or moped, we all pay a dear price for this stupidity.

Little Lamb; this is not a victimless crime. When you hit one of these dummies, your car is damaged, your life can be ruined and they have no liability insurance.

And to all; It sure looks like drugs may be a factor in this poor woman’s death. Hope the authorities can now have a motive to clean out the drug dealers in the CSRA.

more to the story

Let's save the attempt at clever jokes and comments. Given the limited details of the story and essentially no information about the victim's background, there may be a lot that is going unsaid for a reason. A family lost a young person and needs our sympathy as does the driver of the vehicle who surely must be upset over taking the life of another person unintentionally.
