George Young was pronounced dead about 9 a.m., according to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose. An autopsy will take place at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the canal directly behind Enterprise Mill about 6:30 a.m. King David Walker, who witnessed the drowning, said Young pushed his bicycle to the top of the canal bank, then tried to pedal and lost control, falling into the water.

The Richmond County Dive Team retrieved the body about 7:52 a.m.

Last Saturday, the body of Al Jerome Childs, 61, was found in the canal after a fisherman saw a clothed body floating face down in the water near 13th and Telfair streets.

It is the second

It is the second body found in the canal in as many Saturdays. And how many Saturdays would that be? One? Two? Three?

Second Found

Does that mean we will find another body next Saturday and the man found will be 81 since Mr. Childs was 61 and Mr. Young was 71?

Sad..

The guy drowned and some people are more concern with making sarcastic comments. The same people who claim they care so much about the RC taxpayers, but repeatedly bash the county.

Georgia sure is behind the times as far as getting timely autopsies and issuing results of the autopsies. Autopsy scheduled in the week ahead? SC would likely do the autopsy this afternoon or tomorrow and have at least a preliminary cause of death unlike Georgia. When I transported bodies for autopsies to MUSC or Newberry we usually had a cause of death when we got back later that day. What's the deal with the GBI?

Thanks Travis. I recall that story. I also recall thinking it was irresponsible of the GBI to not mandate one of the medical examiners be assigned to the Augusta area. Would it not be feasible for Richmond and Columbia Counties to finance a local medical examiner between the two counties? I tend to think of the hardships placed on families having to delay funeral arrangements.

And some gloss over deaths and shootings and violent crimes with talk of Tee Centers, High-Priced Lodging and Urban Rebuilding.

View countyman's comments on the young ladies shot outside the JBA a few weeks ago... his MO was to divert the story to tell how affluent the CBD is...

You are right that some people don't care about others... but you are defending the wrong person in my opinion.

What was a 71 year old man doing....

He was out trying to get a little exercise, trying to stay in shape, riding along a nice trail that beats the heck out of riding down a busy street.

When its my time, I'd rather go falling into the canal or river than being hit by some dunder head trying to text while he's driving down the road.

Very odd 3 in 3 months

Given the wording of the Article .....

This make 3 in 3 months, is this odd?
Remember ARC had a person found dead in the canal over by
Walton in Feb. of this year.

To have 3 similar deaths in the same general area and specifically in the given terrain, points to another more sinister possibility.

Maybe he went there to go

Maybe he went there to go fishing, who knows?

What's wrong with having a bicycle there?

Nocnoc, there's nothing wrong or sinister, it's just random occurrences that have just happened to clump together.
