The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has identified a body found floating in the Augusta Canal on Saturday.

Al Jerome Childs, 61, was found about 11:50 a.m. after a fisherman saw a clothed body floating face down in the water near 13th and Telfair streets.

Childs lived on Courtland Drive in Augusta.

A cause of death has not been released. Coroner Mark Bowen said an autopsy has been performed but the results are still pending.

Identification was made through fingerprints.
