Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Augusta area

Strong thunderstorms producing hail are possible in the Augusta metro area today.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area until 9 p.m. Columbia, Lincoln and Richmond counties in Georgia and Aiken and McCormick counties in South Carolina are included in the watch.

Large hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter, wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and tornadoes are possible, according to Columbia County Emergency Management Director Pam Tucker.

I have had family near Rock

I have had family near Rock Hill and friends in Spartanburg post pictures of hail piled up in their yards in the last 20 minutes.
