CHESTER, S.C. — A Columbia man has died after his parachute malfunctioned during a jump in Chester County.

Deputy Coroner Tommy Williams says 65-year-old Wolfgang Langehans died at the scene Sunday afternoon. An autopsy was planned Monday.

Authorities say Langehans had jumped from a plane at 13,000 feet.

Authorities are still investigating what happened to Langehans’ parachute.

Skydive Carolina said Langehans had made more than 5,500 jumps in 30 years of skydiving.

Statistics caught up to him....

There is some probability of dying every time you skydive. It is slight, but it is present. After 5500 jumps, the odds caught up to him.
