NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating after a man shot and killed himself after police chased a stolen car.

North Charleston police officers saw the car on Interstate 26 early Thursday and chased it for about four miles before the vehicle smashed into a car in a used car lot. Two of the three people in the car then ran away.

Officers later found the body of 23-year-old Peter Andrew Villa III behind a nearby building.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay says Villa died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound although it’s not clear whether he meant to shoot himself.

The two others in the car were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. One also faces a drug possession charge.

He got acquitted of burglary

He got acquitted of burglary and kidnapping charges in a home invasion in 2012 in Summerville, but that wasn't good enough for him.

Justice can be harsh.

Permanent solution to a

Permanent solution to a temporary problem. What fools we mortals be. It is a crying shame for a human life to be wasted like this, whether he meant to or not, especially so young. May God have mercy on his soul and I pray the others that took flight from the stolen vehicle have learned a lesson from this. I also pray for the burden to be lifted from the negative impact the theft of the car has on its owner.

Looks like another career

Looks like another career criminal bites the dust. Good; now the taxpayers of SC won't have to feed and house him.

He wanted to commit any crime

He wanted to commit any crime that he felt like committing, but he didn't want to go to prison for it.

Good riddance.

Reminds Me of Local Incident

It reminds me of a local well known man who shot himself when the police caught him a few years ago.
