GREENVILLE, S.C. — A Greenville woman has been charged with attempted murder and child neglect after an infant boy was found in a trash can on a city street.

Police spokesman Johnathan Bragg said officers were called to a street around 4:30 p.m. Monday where a baby was found in a trash can. Bragg said the owner of a rental home was doing maintenance when he noticed blood outside the trash can.

Officers found the newborn in a plastic grocery bag wrapped in a blanket in the trashcan.

Bragg says the baby was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sharon Lenise Ferguson was arrested in the investigation. It was not clear if she has an attorney.

Investigators said the boy was born sometime Monday.

Dang

Why not just take the baby to a hospital or church? There are so many ways to give the baby a fighting chance...

SeenitB4 is right. SC has one

SeenitB4 is right. SC has one of the most lenient safe haven law. This mother could have dropped her baby off at a fire station and would not have been prosecuted. As long as the baby is <30 days old.

She needs to be given 25 to

She needs to be given 25 to life with the possibility of parole after 5 years if she agrees to be sterilized. I wonder how many times she has done this before and gotten away with it.

People that do this have

People that do this have severe mental issues, this is not a rational person. This is a person that so unwanted this baby, she threw him away, like a piece of trash. This baby had no value to her whatsoever.

At least now the baby has a chance, if she had kept him, he would've been neglected and abused.

However, the safe haven law

However, the safe haven law of dropping a baby off at a fire station isn't very practical.

The nearest fire station where I live is over 2 miles away. A woman who has just given birth isn't in any shape to walk a long distance.

Mental issues is no excuse

Mental issues is no excuse for throwing that baby in the trash. Just because someoe does horrible crimes does not mean they are mentally ill. It means they are just mean as all get out.

I believe another article

I believe another article stated she was arrested in front of a liquor store....didn't seem she had too difficulty walking to the liquor store instead of a fire station. Heck, drop the baby off at the liquor store, at least he would stand a better chance of someone finding him than in a trash can.

BABY
Unpublished

This poor baby is better if it never lays eyes on his trash of a birth mother. This child will feel disillusioned for the rest of it's life if it ever finds out what happened to it.

In her mind, she was just

In her mind, she was just performing a late, late term abortion. Abortion advocates need to stop making excuses and own up to the fact that this kind of behavior is a direct offshoot of their advocacy.

Stu, it does make you wonder

Stu, it does make you wonder why she didn't seek an abortion early on if having a child was not to her liking. As abhorrent as abortion is, it pales in comparison to a trash can for a viable child. I don't know if it is just a plain lack of respect for life or truly a mental case.

stuaby, how would you

stuaby, how would you possibly know what was in her mind? And how does giving birth become an abortion?

But stuaby, perhaps you can explain why there were abandoned babies dating back to Biblical days- remember Moses in the bulrushes- so your idea that it's because of abortion advocates is just not true. History proves that it's just not so.

Corgimom, comparing what this

Corgimom, comparing what this woman did to Moses in biblical days is just plain idiotic.

Moses' mother didn't abandon him, she actually was trying to save his life when she places him in the basket in the Nile River since the Pharaoh had decreed that all the Hebrew boy babies were to be drowned at birth. Then his sister watches and when the pharaoh's daughters hears his crying she suggest Moses' mother be his nursemaid. So totally different than a mother throwing her child in a trashcan knowing and not caring it was going to die.

What stuaby was suggesting is that to some life has no meaning and there isn't much difference in birthing the baby first before you decide his/her life isn't worth keeping, than waiting till it breathes a breath. I realize that there are some women who choose/chose abortion out of desperation 30-40 years ago and feel there is/was no alternative but in todays world, there are so many options to either prevent pregnancy from happening in the first place and to preserve the life of a child, not dump him/her in a trash can like yesterday's dinner.

Corgimom,

Who are you trying to convince? Me or yourself?

It's OK, sweetie, just let it go. It is what it is.
