WASHINGTON   — Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is resigning from the Obama administration after the rocky rollout of President Barack Obama's signature health care law, a White House official said Thursday.

Her resignation comes just one week after the end of the first enrollment period for the Obamacare law. While the opening weeks of the rollout were marred by website woes, the administration rebounded strongly by enrolling more than 7 million people in the new insurance marketplaces.

Sebelius' resignation following her five-year tenure in Obama's Cabinet comes as the White House seeks to rebound from the politically damaging launch of the health care law. But it could also set the stage for a contentious election-year confirmation hearing to replace her, as Republicans seek to make the health law the centerpiece of their efforts to retake the Senate in the November midterm contests.

The official said Obama was nominating Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, to replace Sebelius. The official was not authorized to discuss Sebelius' resignation ahead of the formal announcement and requested anonymity.

They can still subpoena

They can still subpoena her-as did the Dems subpoena over a hundred individuals trying to pin something on Bush during his presidency. I don't know the Dems cry foul when a turn about is fair play.

who's next

What America needs is for 10-12 more cabinet members to resign. Then Obummer, then O,Biden. Holder should be gone before sunset today. The only problem I see if Barack and Joe resign, is that we would have Boehner in charge. Not much better.

Listen, most of those Cabinet

Listen, most of those Cabinet members resign after awhile and go on to make huge bucks as consultants and lobbyists.

This is nothing new.

The Cabinet post is a stepping stone to great wealth.

Resign-if Obama was a real

Resign-if Obama was a real president he would have fired her for the poor performance, but he is too worried it would make him look weak to have made such a poor choice as her. She was pitiful. After Holder's blatant abuse of power and screw up seems he would ask for his resignation too. Obama acts like such a populist president and most Americans want Holder out according to polls.

Politics, no more, no less.

Politics, no more, no less. She is the lightening rod for Obamacare, which is killing them politically. Get rid of her and hopefully take some of the heat off.

Iaafg, I am a big Palin fan

Iaafg, I am a big Palin fan but she quit as Governor. I predict the truth about the "7" million enrolled in Obama Care will turn out to be around 3 to 4 million and. Obama will state (drum roll please) "I got the numbers from Sebelius"!

Republican Insanity

President Bush pardoned Scooter Libby following his conviction for lying for the administration and outing Valerie Plame. When President Obama pardons a convicted felon from his administration, then we can suggests this as apples to apples. All political parties are immoral except when Republicans declare themselves as the most moral people known to God.

She isn't going to take the

She isn't going to take the heat for the ACA-she didn't write or ram it through Congress on a unilateral basis nor is it her signature achievement as Obama. Obama and Dems own this stinker-they can't blame Bush and blaming her will fall on deaf ears.

That number is still high

"I predict the truth about the "7" million enrolled in Obama Care will turn out to be around 3 to 4 million and. Obama will state (drum roll please) "I got the numbers from Sebelius"!"

When you factor in the people who lost their insurance DUE to Ocare, and had to enroll just to get covered, the numbers are very low for people who were originally uninsured.
