ATHENS, Ga. — The mayor of Athens-Clarke County, who’s seeking re-election this year, says possession and use of small amounts of marijuana should be legal.

Mayor Nancy Denson announced her pro-pot position for the first time Wednesday night at a debate on the University of Georgia campus.

Denson told dozens of students and Athens residents: “I’d like to see small amounts of marijuana decriminalized.” The mayor also said that being caught with a small amount of pot for personal use shouldn’t “create a criminal record that follows someone for the rest of their life.”

The mayor’s opponent, local activist Tim Denson, has been running on a platform that includes legalizing possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. They will face off in the nonpartisan election May 20.

Man, politicians will say

Man, politicians will say anything to get votes!!! The other candidate is running on the platform, so she had to say something, right? She couldn't allow him to get all the pothead votes!!

Voting has been reduced to the lowest common denominator. So legalize everything, pull down the flag, set back and wait for Putin to get here and take over.

Mayor

In Augusta, the mayor is a ceremonial figurehead, but in most cities the mayor actually has real power, and has department heads reporting to him. I don't know about Athens/Clarke consolidated government, but it is possible that the sheriff reports to the mayor. If so, then perhaps the candidates need to keep bidding the vices up in order to capture the student vote.

Both candidates are now on record regarding pot. How about another salvo from one of the candidates — “If elected, I will instruct the sheriff not to arrest people on charges of underage drinking as long as there is not an injury involved!” That ought to bring in a lot of votes.

LL, don't give them any

LL, don't give them any ideas!

After all, those poor students that are arrested then have a criminal record that follows them for the rest of their life.

And you know how terrible that is- especially when it DOESN"T follow them for the rest of their life, what a bald-faced lie.

By being pro-pot maybe the potheads will actually vote.

I hope that if this stance does anything it will cause students to actually survey the candidates and vote.

It's been said that minorities, women and youth are the main reason Obama was elected. I hope these youthful voters will make better choices. I also hope the people of color are fed up with their "Savior" Obama and the Democrats in general. But that is just wishful thinking.

obama, his cronies and democrats should approve the use of marijuana, cocaine, heroine and armed robberies. That's the direction we're headed in.

It couldn't have been more

It couldn't have been more than 6 weeks ago that I told you folks that this "medical marijuana" thing is a trojan horse. And look, the ink on that proposal hasn't even dried and the Chinese water torture-esque stories are already dribbling in. "Athens mayor says a little bit's OK..."

Folks, these people know exactly what they are doing. They are highly coordinated and sophisticated and know how to work the system with people who fall down to their knees just because of someone with a necktie and a white coat and the letters M.D. behind his name and hard cases involving kids.

As I said before; coming to a kid near you:

But, hey, if nobody else

But, hey, if nobody else gives a rat's sass, then why should I? Let's just all ride this mule (what's left of the USA) until he drops. I can roll my own with the best of 'em.
