ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia Bulldog football team appears to have picked up another commitment for its current signing class.

Cornerback Shaq Jones from Merritt Island High School in Florida is expected to sign with the Bulldogs on Wednesday, according to football coach and athletic director Jeff McLean.

Jones took an official visit to Georgia over the weekend.

“From all indications I have, that’s where he’s going to go,” McLean said. “He said that he liked it. …I would say he’s committed.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jones had been most recently committed to Louisville, where former Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham now is the coordinator.

“I know he told some other people that he’s committed to Georgia, a teacher here that he’s close with,” McLean said.

New Georgia assistant coach Kevin Sherrer had recruited Jones, a three-star rated prospect by, when he was defensive coordinator at South Alabama. Jones had given South Alabama a commitment before switching to Louisville.

“Probably in the last two weeks, it’s blown up with his recruiting,” McLean said. “He went to Louisville. I know Miami had talked with him and UCF had talked with him. There had been other schools.”

Jones transferred before last season from Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla.

He returned four kickoffs for touchdowns last season.

“One of the first games of the years, he single-handidly turned the game around,” McLean said. “He tipped a pass, picked it off and ran it back for a touchdown and the next drive caught a long touchdown pass over three kids. He had a good solid year.”

Recruiting these kids is such

Recruiting these kids is such a fickle thing.
Changing their minds on a whim and the latest "great" experience at some school. These are just kids, and it's hard for them to make such a huge decision, especially when they know it means alot to their family, friends, teachers, coaches, and fans.
I've learned a long time ago to just wait until Signing Day!
But you know what? Even after that circus is done, it may take a year before the kid starts actually playing...or maybe never!

Misleading headline....

I am a Georgia fan but this kid is not a "top" recruit. Look at his offer list. He may be a diamond in the rough but Georgia's mediocre recruiting continues. For almost the last decade Georgia's recruiting is about fourth in the SEC--the results are on the field each year.
