Nearly all commercial air flights arriving and departing Augusta Regional Airport were cancelled Tuesday afternoon.

Most early-morning flights operated on schedule, but US Airways and Delta Air Lines canceled flights for the afternoon hours, when sleet and ice were forecast.

The airport, however, will not close, said Lauren Smith, the communications manager.

Air travelers can check the status of their flights by visiting www.augustaregionalairport.com or the airline Web sites.
