McCormick County Coroner Faye Puckett said Sunday that LaChadrick Terell Freeman, 34, and LaToya Freeman, 32, a married couple from Grovetown, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim, Michael Wayne Brantley, 38, of Modoc, S.C., died after he was airlifted to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

The accident happened about 8:25 p.m. on S.C. Highway 28, less than a mile from Thurmond Lake, South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tony Keller said Sunday.

Keller said the accident involved a 1994 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Brantley, and a 1994 GMC pickup, occupied by the Freemans. All were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and were trapped in their vehicles when officers arrived on the scene.

The accident is still being investigated by the highway patrol’s accident team, Keller said.
