FLAT ROCK, Ala. — Sheriff’s officials in northeast Alabama say a Georgia man accused of leaving his 5-year-old son alone in a car during a hunting trip is free on $500 bond.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Lt. Rocky Harnen told AL.com that 29-year-old Brandon Mark Chambers, of Trenton, Ga., was charged with endangering a child.

Authorities say the boy was left alone in the car in Flat Rock and activated the vehicle’s OnStar system when he got cold.

Harnen says when authorities arrived, the boy’s father was still hunting and the car’s thermometer gave a reading of 31 degrees.

Harnen says the boy was released to the custody of his step mother.

Flat Rock is about 65 mile east of Huntsville.

Punishment to fit the crime

This dude needs to be thrown nekkid into a half frozen pond in February and then made to stand outside for 48 hours.

Just send this dud to North

Just send this dud to North Korea and let the little rotund guy with the bad haircut take care of him.

It's wrong, but I'd like to

It's wrong, but I'd like to know all the details. Could he keep his eye on the car from his hunting site which was pretty close? Something like that.

Nope....No Excuse

If it gets down to 31 degrees inside the car, Dad is too preoccupied in the hunt. Smart kid, to know to activate OnStar. Hopefully, Dad has learned a valuable lesson. For his sake, he'd better not even think about punishing the Son. A trenton, GA "field trip" might then be in order...

Yep

I slept in the truck when Daddy hunted - Curled up in a sleeping bag- warm as a bug in a rug - no on star or whatever it's called -

Lilly, that's exactly what I

Lilly, that's exactly what I was thinking. Daddy is right there by the car, just inside the woods. Kid is sleeping covered up well and so on. I find it unusual for hunters to be child neglecters.

They didn't mention the child

They didn't mention the child being treated for hypothermia, or other cold-related injuries. Need to know more before judging the dad.
