COLUMBIA — Santa was apparently right on target for Christmas for South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and her daughter rush to greet the governor's husband earlier this month upon his return from overseas deployment.

Haley posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on Thursday a picture of the Beretta PX4 Storm she got as a present, saying she must have been good to have received such a nice present from Santa Claus.

Haley’s spokesman later confirmed the gift was from Haley’s husband and she cannot wait to get on the range and fire the pistol.

The governor is no stranger to firearms. She has a concealed weapons permit and fired a pistol, assault rifle and got plenty of attention in July when her office posted a video of her firing a machine gun while touring a Columbia gun maker.

News

Well, to me this story is more interesting than the fact that FedEx and UPS missed a few deliveries (which was the lead story on CBS News).

Lamb - I don't think I could agree more.

Who cares if a few packages show up a day or two late? Just serves to extend the Christmas joy for some handful of folks out there.

If someone wants to give me a present today or tomorrow, I'm not gonna refuse to accept it.

A Beretta PX4 Storm would be especially nice. Small and easy to conceal.

"Please don't start using this term..."

Agreed.... Particularly since our illustrious politicians can't come to a common conclusion as to what an "assault" rifle is.

Never ceases to amaze me how one suddenly becomes an expert on anything and everything simply because he/she has the money and/or charisma to get himself/herself elected to public office.

Darby it all started because

Darby it all started because the media assumes the AR in AR-15 stands for Assault Rifle. Then it just got worse from then on out. Then it became the type of caliber the rifle used if it was "assault" worthy, then came magazine capacity dictating if it was an "assault weapon".

It was an old military coined term that somehow never died when it should have.

Also, LOL @ the 3 negative feed backs on my post. I bet I can guess the type of person who did that. :)

lots of stories on firearms have terminology errors

I noticed the assault rifle thing too - the media makes lots of errors reporting on firearms. The New York Times has made so many they addressed the issue on their site this morning: http://afterdeadline.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/12/24/getting-guns-right/
