“We didn’t have any idea we would find (the deer), but it was there,” Sheriff Janis Mangum said.
The deer, along with a turkey fan and a mounted duck, were stolen on Oct. 19 from a Jefferson home and all were recovered, authorities said.
“The investigation is continuing into the stolen property,” Magnum said. “There were a couple of firearms stolen out of Walton County ( that were recovered).”
The suspect, Bryan Michael Hayes, 37, of Pendergrass, was arrested Nov. 14 at his home on Old State Road where investigators also seized an undisclosed amount of cash and meth. Hayes remains in jail.
Hayes is charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Investigators also seized drug paraphernalia, according to Mangum.
Hayes arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation that began when authorities suspected him of dealing in meth, the sheriff said.
