SC train strikes, kills man

GREER, S.C.— Police in Greer say a man died after he was struck by a train.

Greenville County Coroner Park Evans said 28-year-old Daniel Martin Sauvola was struck early Friday morning by a Norfolk Southern freight train.

Greer Police Department Lt. Cris Varner said investigators were called about 7:20 a.m. Friday after a train engineer notified authorities that a man, believed to have been hit by another train, was lying near Able Street.

Varner said the train engineer who notified police was not involved in the fatality.
