Dogwood Stable president Cot Campbell will not make the trip to California to see Palace Malice run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Campbell is suffering from vertigo and instead will watch Saturday’s race from his Aiken home.

“I’m doing alright,” Campbell said Thursday morning. “It’s the kind of thing that I’m not in constant pain, but if I fly in an airplane it exacerbates it.”

Campbell plans to talk to trainer Todd Pletcher on Thursday afternoon and finalize plans for Palace Malice, who could wrap up an Eclipse Award for top 3-year-old horse with a strong showing.

In the 1996 Breeders’ Cup races in Toronto, Campbell suffered a bout of vertigo but his 2-year-old filly, Storm Song, won the juvenile fillies race.

“We won the Breeders’ Cup, but it was not a fun trip,” Campbell said.
