Package investigated at courthouse

Emergency responders have cleared from the federal courthouse downtown after determining a suspicious letter was not a threat.

Fire Chief Chris James said officials responded after a letter from an inmate drew suspicion.

Members of the FBI, Richmond County Fire Department, HAZMAT and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office were at the courthouse for several hours.
