Storms cause power outages

A storm system working its way east through the area late Monday left a trail of power outages and downed lines and trees but caused no reported injuries.

Carol Boatright, a spokeswoman for Georgia Power, said just before 10 p.m. the company was working to restore power to approximately 7,000 households across Burke, Richmond and Columbia counties resulting from some 82 individual outages caused by the storm.

Boatright said the outages numbered about 1,700 in Burke County, where a possible tornado was seen on National Weather Service radar around 9 p.m. Burke EMA reported little damage from the weather late Monday.
