An Aiken man died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Wire Road.

Kirby A. White, 22, was traveling north on Wire Road near Old Shoals Road about 2 a.m., according to a statement from Coroner Tim Carlton. His 2006 Mitsubishi appears to have crossed the road and struck a large tree on the other side. White was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speeding and alcohol might have been contributing factors, the coroner stated. Toxicology tests are pending and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

Sorry to hear!

Tragic !!! Prayers with this young man's family. I worked an accident not far from this location once where speed and alcohol were factors. It too resulted in a tragic instant death. Wire Rd is way to curvy to be drinking and driving. Young people think they are invincible it seems.
