PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — Furry little Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning, predicting an early spring at his annual appearance out of Gobbler's Knob in west-central Pennsylvania.

However, Georgia's groundhog, Gen. Beauregard Lee, has spotted his shadow — indicating we're in for a longer winter.

Lee woke to the ringing of an antique bell Saturday and waddled out of his home at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn. Ranch employee Mary Jackson says about 600 onlookers braved a frigid morning to await his Groundhog Day prediction.

Gen. Lee's handlers say he's been proven right about 94 percent of the time.

Gen. Lee's forecast for more chilly weather puts him at odds with his weather-predicting counterpart to the North — Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil.

Legend has it that if the   groundhog   sees his shadow on Feb. 2, winter will last six more weeks. No shadow means an early spring.

Come on Spring!!

I agree with Phil, particularly after seeing a good amount of pollen falling before and after the recent heavy rains. As no fan of short, cold, cloudy days, I'm happy with this news.

If Obama comes out of the White House today and does not see his shadow, taxes will go up by 2 trillion dollars. If he does see his shadow, they will go up by 3 trillion dollars. Either way, we are doomed.
Happy Groundhog Day

An assault rifle or a pesky ground hog? Just funning.

My husband has spent the entire time we have known each other trying to make me laugh. Not all of the time. Some years ago, he dressed in a dark suit, donned a top hat he had quickly crafted, grabbed up our wildest looking cat, Spirit, took her outside, for an Aiken rendition.

I can't remember if she saw her shadow or not, but after about 60 seconds, she took off and ran halfway up a pine tree.
