CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A Bartow County school board member accused of striking a teenager with her SUV in a dispute over a Wal-Mart parking space has resigned from the school board.

Police say Angela Cornett, 41, struck the 17-year-old girl, who was standing in a parking space Friday trying to save it for someone. The teen and Cornett argued before Cornett hit the girl with her car outside the Cartersville store, police said.

Cornett submitted her resignation Thursday to Gov. Nathan Deal and the school system’s superintendent, her lawyer, John Mroczko, told WSB-TV.

She faces a charge of reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

Cornett told The Daily Tribune of Cartersville that she never hit the teen and said the girl leaned against her car.

The teenager was not seriously injured during the impact, but investigators photographed the tire marks on her pant leg. Cornett’s lawyer said the teen leaned into his client’s car to cause the marks.

Cornett decided to resign from the school board for personal and family reasons, her lawyer told WSB.

Cartersville is about 45 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Probably a good career move.

Probably a good career move. The Wal-Mart video showed she accelerated and ran into the girl. She's toast, lawyer or not.
