Both Richmond and Aiken counties recorded their first homicides of 2013 early Tuesday.

In the Augusta case, authorities are asking for the public’s help. According to a statement released by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded about 2:30 a.m. to a shooting at Club Fiesco, 2925 Peach Orchard Road. There they found 21-year-old Edward Yancey dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators think the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the club that continued into the parking lot. Yancey was not believed to have been involved; deputies called him an innocent bystander.
“When I seen him he was happy,” a witness identified as Carlysha Golatt told WRDW-TV. “He was jumping up and down in the club and I seen him again and he was laying on the ground,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1080 or during business hours at (706) 821-1020. Callers can remain anonymous.

A second shooting took place Monday night in Aiken County, and the victim was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

According to a statement released by Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Joseph Brown, 22, of Aiken, was shot several times about 9:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Fairfield Street.

He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and was pronounced dead about 4 a.m., Carlton said. An autopsy is scheduled today in Newberry, S.C., the coroner said.

Jamar Nicholas White, 28, of Aiken, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime, according to an Aiken Department of Public Safety statement.

Was it a shooter or an drunk

Was it a shooter or an drunk idiot?

Was he/she celebrating the new year by popping off a few rounds like a idiot in a crowded area.

Or a drunk shooting in the air and also at people?

BTW:
I quit bar hopping when I got married and no longer drink so I have not been to a bar in ages. Isn't it still illegal to carry a weapon in to a bar serving alcohol?

IF it is still illegal.
We have another example of a Gun Law that protected the criminal from being shot in retaliation because of Honest, law abiding citizens.

Club Fiasco.......

Fiasco definition; a complete failure.

Wow, sounds like a club I would want to spend my free time at, then again........

Yes, it's still illegal to carry a firearm at a public gathering that serves alcohol. So yes, that law worked out well, just as with most gun laws.

'Investigators believe the shooting resulted from an argument that occurred inside of the club that continued into the parking lot. Yancey, however, was not believed to have been involved in the argument.

Not even involved in the argument and now a momma has to bury her child. So senseless and sad. Praying for this family.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that it is legal to carry in a public place that serves alcohol as long as 50% of their profit is made from food service.

If not, I have been violating the CWP law.

the small print in my above post is "if" I consume alcohol in that public establishment, then it become illegal.

Carrying weapons in a bar..

you are prohibited from carrying in a bar, unless the owner of the bar permits the carrying of weapons or long guns by license holders.

"Bar" means an establishment that is devoted to the serving of alcoholic beverages for consumption by guests on the premises and in which the serving of food is only incidental to the consumption of those beverages, including, but not limited to, taverns, nightclubs, cocktail lounges, and cabarets.

Here's an idea...

When folks get into it inside and have to leave the club, throw each group out one at a time and make them LEAVE THE PROPERTY! A fight inside ALWAYS carry's over into the parking lot when allowed to stay near each other. Plus, 9 times out of 10 their guns are IN THEIR CARS! Then, of course, they can't duke it out, OH NO, these tough guys have to pull out a gun and start blasting, and they are such good shots (like all gang-banger type thugs) that they don't kill each other, they instead hit by-standers. Oh, and here is a tip for the Jerry Springer folks who stand around to watch, GET OUT OF THERE! Leave the scene immediately at the sign of Gangstas doing Gangsta stuff, the life you save may be your own.

What is wrong with people these days, is life so cheap?

The Imperial Federal

The Imperial Federal Government has done a good job in cheapening the value of life. While I blame the criminal, I also blame them. They do a poor job of parenting.

Bar carry.

The bar owner has the control of weapons in their establishment. RE: A: SB308 criminalized bar carry, unless the owner of the bar grants permission to carry. If the bar owner does not allow carry, it is a crime to carry there.

Whaa???

Did I just hear Meredith Anderson correctly on Ch 12 noon day news? A man was shot to death at a club on the very first day of the year and the new sheriff says he can't comment because it's a holiday and he is spending time with his family? Some jobs are 24/7 and sheriff is one of them. This is just wrong.

O.C.G.A. § 16-11-127 Carrying weapons in unauthorized locations

See: http://www.georgiapacking.org/GaCode/?title=16&chapter=11&section=127

(6) In a bar, unless the owner of the bar permits the carrying of weapons or long guns by license holders.

Yep the law has changed since my 1st carry permit issued under Probate Judge Irene Pope.

"(6) In a bar....

....unless the owner of the bar permits the carrying of weapons or long guns by license holders."

That's interesting, and it's obviously a pretty recent change. So now you can carry a weapon into a bar, even if it only sells potato chips, or peanuts.

I wonder how one knows whether the bar owner "permits the carrying of weapons or long guns by license holders," or not? Must he post a permit at the entry door, or post a sign saying "no guns allowed?" Can you assume he permits it if no contrary sign is posted?

Do you stop at the door and yell inside "hey, can I bring my gun in there?" :)

Maybe I misread what Harley posted (too much beer for me during the game?) You CAN NOT carry a weapon into a bar unless the owner permits it. I noted that Buffalo Wild Wings has posted a sign saying that they don't permit weapons. I also notice the law doesn't clarify if places like restaurants that sell alcohol are considered "bars" and therefore are prohibited locations. Sometimes I think lawmakers make laws intentionally vague.

Austin saying something about there being a law in Georgia where they can only ask you to leave...it's not a criminal offense...not sure if that applies in a bar though....

Life and Civility

Open Curtain, Life is valuable regardless of the parent being single or not. Brad, life doesn't mean much to many anymore, we have lost the civilty that makes us human. The world is becoming more course and the peole have lost sight of caring for others. I do mean this as a general statement, there are still those that care but a lot of them have retreated from this cold cruel world.

Read the law

or seek advice from an attorney. It is an misdemeanor to carry a firearm into a prohibited location. I don't know that I'd take legal advise from a talk show host.

galaxygrl & My Response

galaxygrl -

Starting the child and Raising a Child are different valuable things.

FACT: CENSUS NUMBERS:
Single mothers in America,
6.5 percent of them are widows,
37.8 percent are divorced,
and 41.3 percent gave birth out of wedlock.

Out of Wedlock Children are 6 times more likely to be poor also.

44 percent of out of Wedlock children live in poverty.
Out of Wedlock children are 4x more likely to be dead before 30.
Out of Wedlock children are 9x more likely to arrested more than once.

American poverty rates were 13.2% for the whole population and 19% for children.

It is 28.7% for unwed female-headed households.

Because I value LIFE
I want the best for each child brought into this world.
Therefore, I am strongly against "Hookup" births.

The Fed stepping in and acting like stand in grandparents makes it only worse and allows the cycle to continue as it has for 40 years.

Marry and Stay married.
Have the children you want.
2 Parent Families offer the most hope for a child.
1 parent families offer the least hope.

BREAK THE POVERTY CYCLE.

Why do we need four state police with
Unpublished

9mm pistols guarding college football coaches? Are college coaches such hated men or are they just "special people" like the POTUS? What if an irate player pulls the gun and shoot a dozen opposing players? Jaked up and ready to inflict pain and suffering. Do the opposing state police expect a shootout at midfield? Ludicrous behavior for grown men and costly. Th4e stats say that not one football coach has every been shot on the field. Not one player has been shot on the field. No one spectator has been shot on the field.
