SLED probes Citadel accusations

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating allegations by two Citadel cadets that they were inappropriately touched by an upperclassman.

Campus police say two cadets filed reports last week against a 23-year-old alumnus who graduated from the military school last year. The report says one cadet accused the upperclassman of assaulting him three times, while a second cadet says the individual groped him sexually.

SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson says her agency got a request from the school to look into the complaints. She would not comment further.

Citadel spokeswoman Charlene Gunnells says the school notified SLED of the allegations, and told cadets and staff last week that a recent graduate has been accused of inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with cadets.
