NORTH AUGUSTA -- James Cochran, 26, is in custody after an overnight standoff with the North Augusta Department of Public Safety SWAT team and other police agencies.

No one else was hurt or injured in this incident. No one else was inside the residence, police said.

According to a news release, the incident began late Friday night after gunshots were reported at North Augusta Gardens Apartments.

After several efforts throughout the night to get the man inside the residence to come out, officers went inside this morning and found Cochran hiding in the bathroom. He surrendered shortly before 7 a.m. this morning with a shotgun and knife in hand, police said.

Cochran now faces five counts of attempted murder to law enforcement officers for firing at them during the standoff. He was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.
