1 dead, 1 critical after wreck

A 22-year-old man is dead and a 20-year-old Grovetown woman is in critical condition after an accident on Gordon Highway Sunday afternoon.

A little after 2 p.m., the Grovetown woman was driving her Subaru eastbound on Gordon Highway, when she attempted to make a left turn onto Newmantown Road, and collided with a 2005 Jeep Liberty, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay.

Her male passenger was airlifted and she was transported by ambulance to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and she was in critical condition, Gay said. Names have not been released, pending notification of the family.

The driver of the Jeep, Eugene Shelley, 48, was taken to MCG for observation.
