Victim identified in fatal house fire

A man who died in a Monday morning house fire has been identified as 42-year-old Saxon Washington.

Richmond County firefighters discovered the body in the kitchen of a fire-damaged home on Meadowgrove Drive around 3 a.m. Monday.

The man’s 4-year-old child had previously been pulled from the burning building by a neighbor, 19-year-old Felande Ross, and another man witnesses identified as Miller Jenkins.

Authorities said two of Washington’s children, ages 7 and 9, had escaped the home and sought help from neighbors.

Autopsy results showed Washington died of smoke and soot inhalation.
