SC trooper fired on in Aiken

  • Follow Latest News

AIKEN— Authorities say an off-duty South Carolina trooper was fired on after he followed a car he thought was being driven by an impaired driver.

Aiken County sheriff’s deputies said the trooper was not hurt in the shooting around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said the trooper was in his personal vehicle when he noticed a car driving erratically on state Highway 421. The officer called dispatchers and followed the vehicle.

Deputies say the trooper followed the vehicle as it turned on a side street and someone in the car leaned out a back seat window and began firing at the officer. The trooper stopped following the car.

Authorities say the trooper did get the car’s license plate and officers are trying to find it.

Once again a case of people

Once again a case of people going way above and beyond the call of duty for something that should be handled by the people who should handle it. If you are off duty, report the car, then let your buddies do their job, that's why our taxes are going them. If you are being followed by someone suspicious go to public place and let the police know. Neither did what made common sense, thus one is fired, the others are going to jail. No sympathy for either party for this guy.

He wasn't fired, he was fired

He wasn't fired, he was fired on, or fired upon by a shooter.

Thanks KSL! The scary thing

Thanks KSL! The scary thing is, that it could have been anyone following that car. The officer went above and beyond, trying to get help to take a dangerous driver off the streets. This officer had no idea what was about to happen. If he had known, he still would have followed. Cops aren't paid enough, and don't get enough respect for what they do to keep us all safe.

Guns

Seem to be the answer to everything. My son will be a police officer by Jan of 2013. I will worry everyday he is on duty and off duty. He will be a sworn officer. Which means he will be on duty 24/7. Some people have no respect for law enforcement. The word police no longer puts the fear of god in people. I can remember growing up you had respect for a police officer. Today that is not the case. Guns have replaced that fear......
