EATONTON, Ga. -- A 2009 Putnam County High School graduate was killed Sunday by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, according to published reports.
The Telegraph newspaper in Macon says Army Spc. Erica Alecksen had been a military police officer with the 978th Military Police Brigade since August 2010.
Alecksen, who listed Eatonton has her hometown on Facebook, was assigned to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
She was deployed to Wardak, Afghanistan.
It is pathetic that the country calling itself the greatest in the world sends its young folk off to fight and die in a 10 year 9 month long failed war. The U.S. neocolonial, political war in Afghanistan is as much of a mistake as the U.S. war in Vietnam. This young woman's death is truly pointless serving only to expose the moral bankruptcy of U.S. leaders.

I searched Google images for Army Spc. Erica Alecksen and found her photograph. May she rest in peace, and may God comfort her family and friends. We should all rethink exactly what we are doing in Afghanistan.
I suggest that the DOD casualty reports should be published on the inside page of the AC. Sure, being from GA should make a headline, but what about all those other brave men and women who should be honored with at least a notice of their passing. Or is it to much for the American people to observe... the daily deaths of our troops, who have given the their last measure. Always wondered how a newspaper could call itself a 'news' paper and NOT publish such pertinent information. good to see you back Cain.
Rest well soldier for you have my undying loyalty, unyielding support & utmost respect ! It is so sad to see our soldiers killed daily in a place where most despise us and only GOD knows what is in store for us . It's like sticking your hand in a bucket of water. Once removed their is no indication we have been there. Please join me in lifting yet another soldiers family up in prayer . God Bless Our country and all that defend her. Keep this family in your thoughts as they bury their daughter....and our hero.

Nothing we can do will bring this young woman or any of the other 2040 U.S. military personnel who have died in Operation Enduring Freedom (the Afghanistan theater of war) back to life. She and all the others who have died are in God's hands. What we can do is prevent more needless American deaths in this pointless, godforsaken war. There will be no military victory. Why keep throwing away young American lives?
