Ga. man kills cousin with shovel, cops say

CLYO, Ga. -- A Savannah area man man has been arrested in the beating death of his cousin. Darrell Lovett, 51, was arrested on murder charges Wednesday.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor said when deputies arrived they found the victim, Arthur Scruggs, 63, inside of the home suffering from multiple blunt force injuries to his head. He was taken to the emergency room at Effingham Health System where he was pronounced dead.

“The investigation revealed that Lovett struck Scruggs with a shovel multiple times in the head following an argument,” Ehsanipoor said.

Ehsanipoor said investigators aren’t sure what spurred the deadly argument.

“We don’t know, but an elderly female resident of the home died earlier in the day,” Ehsanipoor said. “Maybe tensions were high.”

This homicide remains under investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

An autopsy will be performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah.

Lovett is being held at the Effingham County Jail.

Outlaw those bad shovels

We need new laws right now!
We need to bring lawsuits on the shovel manufacturers, and the lumber industry that supplied the handles too....
...kidding, of course.
Seriously, sorry for the families involved.

Odd

how the deaths of human beings sometimes brings out the humor from some of our chatters. Sort of sad, I think. I guess the temperature IS getting out of hand.
My deepest sympathy to the family members.

It's very sad, all around

for both the victim and the perpetrator.
Imagine the horror of being bludgeoned to death with a shovel, particularly at the hands of a family member and then imagine having to live with the knowledge that your dysfunctional behavior was so out of control you took another's life.
