Four people, including a 7-year-old, were taken to the hospital after a two-car accident on Tobacco Road on Tuesday afternoon, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay.

Two men in a truck and a woman and a child in a car were involved in the wreck about 3:40 p.m. It is possible that the afternoon’s sudden rainstorm “was an issue” in the accident, Gay said.

The woman was extracted from her vehicle and taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital by helicopter.

“She was airlifted, but appeared to be responsive,” Gay said.

A 7-year-old in the vehicle with the woman was also taken to the hospital for observation. Both men were taken by ambulance to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, Gay said.
