Armed bandits rob Ga. Tech dorm

  • Follow Latest News

ATLANTA — Police say a Georgia Tech student was awakened by two armed men in his dorm room.

The student told police that when a noise woke him up around 1 a.m. Sunday, he found two unknown men going through his belongings.

The student told police that when he asked the men what they were doing, one pointed a gun at him. When the men left the room, they took the student’s laptop and cell phone with them.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the room, and no injuries were reported.

This follows a spate of recent robberies of Georgia Tech students. But campus police Deputy Chief Robert Connolly tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this is the first time he can recall robbers allegedly entering a dorm room.

Description of Perps

No doubt the perps were Amish, but the AJC was reluctant to report this.

Why wouldn't they?

It's a gun-free hunting ground in the middle of Atlanta. Security is non-existent. I'm surprised it's taken so long before the predators have come to prey on the herd.

You know this story is false

... as weapons of any sort, particularly firearms, are illegal on campus.

I had a friend who went to U

I had a friend who went to U Penn, which is in one of the toughest parts of downtown Philadelphia. He said the campus was a heavily guarded haven of safety in an extremely dangerous area of the city. Sounds like Georgia Tech officials should learn how Penn handles its security.

Do you honestly believe that every law/rule put in place is followed by every single person? As a student of GT, I can vouge for guns not being permitted on campus. However, as history has shown us, these rules aren't always followed. Or have you already forgotten both Virginia Tech shootings?

I have spent the majority of my time on campus for the last 3 years and have never once felt that the GTPD or Atlanta PD have been lax about their duties or taken the safety of each individual on campus lightly. Nor have I ever felt unsafe. Many (let me emphasize, not all but many) of the incidents that have been reported in the last couple years could have been prevented or avoided by practicing the safety techiniques that are emphaized at freshman orientation, and at least once a month by email.
