Day 5 of the trials brought with it the excitement of watching Katherine Huff and CJ Hendry compete in the 100-meter freestyle. Of the 1,829 athletes competing in these trials, nothing is better than seeing your hometown swimmers step confidently up to the block in what most would consider a rather intimidating atmosphere. Katherine and CJ swam great races not far off from their career personal best times. Statistics from the first four events here at the Olympic trials show that only 18.5% of the swimmers had achieved personal best times. This level swim meet brings with it a considerable amount of intangibles and stress that might make if difficult to have a career best time for that one race on that one day.

Jackie would count this as her the best day of trials thus far. She swam her morning warm-up in a lane with none other than Ryan Lochte, one of her favorite Olympians. The arena has a special buzz and excitement about it each evening as we watch the United States 2012 Olympic Team being formed. More later as our swimmers round out their week.
