New canal access at Riverlook Drive to be discussed today

An information session on the Augusta Canal Authority’s proposal to create a “Riverlook Gateway” access site at the end of Riverlook Drive will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the project site.

Residents and property owners from Castlewood, Deodara and Riverlook drives have been invited and will have an opportunity to review drawings of the project, ask questions and provide comments. The meeting will be held in a vacant lot at the end of the cul-de-sac.

The Canal Authority and Augusta Utilities Department plan to provide a pedestrian and bicycle trail to the bridge to the Raw Water Pump Station and towpath. The project includes an attractive landscaped parking area and custom-built brick and metal fencing to replace the existing chain link and barbed wire.

More details will be available at the meeting.
