Cartersville, Georgia, man released after treatment for flesh-decaying infection

A 33-year-old man with a flesh-decaying bacterial infection has been released from the Augusta hospital where he received treatment.

Doctors Hospital spokeswoman Barclay Bishop confirmed that Bobby Vaughn, of Cartersville, was discharged from the Joseph M. Still Burn Center. She could not provide information on his release date.

Vaughn was treated for necrotizing fasciitis, the same infection as Aimee Copeland whose condition has improved after losing her left leg, hands and other foot in recent weeks.

Vaughn had a sixth surgery on May 22. He was hospitalized on May 4 after getting a small cut on his leg while trimming weeds.
