Crews are already on the roadways removing snapped tree limbs and downed power lines after rain moved into the area this morning and more heavy rain is expected for the remainder of the day.
Meteorologists are calling for a 100 percent chance of rain today as Tropical Storm Beryl moves across the area.
Pam Tucker, director of Columbia County Emergency & Operations Division, said widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms will be developing across east central Georgia and central South Carolina today and this evening. There is potential locally for very heavy rain.
The sudden, heavy downpours have the potential to create ponding on the roadways. Authorities advise drivers to use caution throughout the day.
