Augusta man shot dead on Red Bird Road; father in custody

An Augusta man was shot and killed Monday night and his father is in custody, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the 1000 block of Red Bird Road at 5:38 p.m. after gunshots were reported.

Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said authorities found the body of Rocky Allen Moody, 23, inside his residence.

McDonald said he died from an apparent gunshot wound and his autopsy is scheduled for today at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Augusta.

According to a news release from police, his father, Robert Moody, 55, shot him with a rifle following an argument.

He has been jailed on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, police said this morning.

 

 

 

This is the thirteenth homicide of 2012 in Richmond County.
